I often hear or read Americans, especially the NBA players, say: "We got beat last night." I've even read a similar usage in one news report of The Associated Press. Have Americans long accepted such usage? Have they discarded the word "beaten"? So first there's an increasing tendency in Am. Eng. to subsitute the perfect tense for the past participle, second it's just poor grammar. "We lost last night" or "We were beaten by a better team." could be better.
